We’re seeking volunteers that would like to get involved as community members to assist with the following SCLP activities:
Project Coordinator
The project coordinator will oversee all activities related to book box monitors, maintenance, donations, community engagement, and research partnerships. This includes identifying community members, activity scheduling and reporting, liaison with advisory members, and community relationship building.
Monitors
We seek a few monitors to help re-stock the book boxes, remove unwanted items, identify maintenance issues, report on usage, and place printed community notices into the book boxes.
Book Box Maintenance
The Schumacher Volunteer Fire Department and Timmins Fire Department has provided a workspace in the fire hall basement to maintain the book boxes. We seek a trade person to inspect book boxes that require maintenance, repairing damaged boxes, procure materials, and keep track of all book box maintenance activities.
Book Donations
The Schumacher Volunteer Fire Department and Timmins Fire Department has provided a room in the fire hall to sort and store donated books. The Timmins Public Library has provided shelving units to store books. The public can donate books into book bins located by the Schumacher Lions Centre entrance in the McIntyre Community Building. We seek several volunteers to pick up books from the donation bins, bring to fire hall, review and sort books, attach a SLCP sticker on books, place on shelves, and keep track of book donation activities.
Community Engagement
To encourage community engagement we seek a person to establish and maintain a social media group, receive and approve community notices (digital & printed) for events and activities taking place in Schumacher only, share approved community notices online, distribute printed notices via book boxes, promote the Schumacher Community Library Project, and keep track of community engagement activities.
Research Partnerships
We will also encourage community research partnerships and projects that seek to better understand the needs of residents and will improve the quality of life in the community of Schumacher.
